Ray Quinn heartbroken after dad died of cancer just weeks after diagnosis

The X Factor's Ray Quinn has recalled a "dark time" after his dad died in November last year.

The singer, who also appeared in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, said he's still processing his grief after his dad – also called Ray – died after a short battle with cancer, only weeks after doctors first gave him the diagnosis.

They told him he'd have six to eight months to live if he started treatment, but he died six to eight weeks later.

Ray told OK! magazine: "My dad passed away in November which was really quite a sad, dark time.

"It was a really difficult time for me… Basically he had cancer and it was a bit heavy and it was all over.

"They told him six to eight months with the treatment and it was six to eight weeks basically and we lost him just before the 8th November, I think he died on the 7th."

He added: "It was very, very sad times. I'm still getting over it now as you can probably tell."

His dad was his biggest fan, and went out of his way to make sure he was there for his son's shows.

"He loved a beer or two! He was a real character my dad and I get some of that from him," Ray continued.

"Even when he came to my gigs he was the first person I'd go up to and say, 'How was it dad?'

"He'd be the first person to tell me the truth, he'd say, 'I've seen you do it better,' and it would just break my heart, but I knew inside it wasn't good enough."

Ray's now engaged to fiancee Emily Ashleigh after he got down on one knee and popped the question on New Year's Eve.

Emily's mum to a son, Lucian, while Ray has eight-year-old Harry from his previous marriage.

"Welcome to the family my Queen #shesaidyes," Ray captioned a loved-up snap of the two.

Emily posted the same snap and wrote: "The most beautiful things are not seen or heard, but felt….Falling in love with you is just indescribable…..Forever it is."

And they may be sharing baby joy sometime soon, Ray revealing they think they're "very ready" for a child together.

Ray appeared in 2006's X Factor, and won 2009's Dancing On Ice.
