Rylan Clark has confessed has opened up about the effects his marriage breakdown had on his mental health which left him “crying all day” and even contemplated quitting showbiz.
The former X Factor star split from his husband of six years Dan Neal back in June last year which left the 33-year-old presenter seeking support from his close friends and family as he battled with his recent heartbreak.
He initially informed to his loyal legion of fans that the pair were taking a break after he had made a “number of mistakes”, but less than a week later the telly star confirmed their relationship was over following the “breakdown of their marriage.”
Now, the star has opened up about how he struggled to come to terms with the breakup as he explained how his mum Linda became his “entire support” system during the difficult year.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, he explained how he had stopped eating and almost quit working in showbiz after he announced their split online.
He told the publication: “I couldn’t have got through the last year without my mum – she was there for me majorly. She was my entire support. If I was a puppet, she was the strings.
“I didn’t think I was going to come back at all. At one point, I didn’t want to come back. I didn’t want to do this job any more. I didn’t want to do anything.”
His mum soon chimed as she admitted how difficult it was to watch her son in pain, and often let him sleep in her bed in order to get some much-needed rest.
She added: “It was really hard last year. He’s got this beautiful home, but he was here with me. He couldn’t sleep so I said, ‘Get in my bed with me’.
“I didn’t know what he was thinking of doing. He’s lost so much weight, he was just staring all the time. I was crying all day with him, and I was forcing him to eat.”
Just one month later, Rylan took a break from social media and got his life back on track by organising a diet and exercise plan which forced him out of the house.
He concluded with: “There are some mornings I wake up and think, ‘F**k, I don’t want to go to work today,’ but I'm lucky to be still working.”
It comes after Rylan and his mum Linda appeared on This Morning to discuss their upcoming Celebrity Gogglebox appearance.
The star confessed how his mother took the fall for him on multiple when he was too unwell mentally to make a public appearance.
He told Alison Hammond: “It was actually me last year, I wasn’t too well. At the time it was like, ‘Mummy’s not too well with her Chron’s,’ but no, it was actually me that wasn’t too well last year,
“Yeah, she’s always taking the fall for her son,” he confessed.
