Selena Gomez Looks Back on Release of Rare Album: ‘Can’t Believe It’s Been a Year’

Selena Gomez is celebrating one year of Rare.

On Sunday, the 28-year-old singer commemorated the one-year anniversary of the release of her widely acclaimed third studio album with a sweet post on her Instagram Story.

"Can't believe it's been a year since Rare was released," she wrote alongside a photo with a group of fans. "So much has happened but I wanted to let you know I love you guys."

Rare, which was applauded by critics upon its release, features hit singles "Lose You to Love Me," Look at Her Now," and "Rare." The release was Gomez's first album since 2015's Revival.

While appearing at the virtual Teen Vogue Summit last month, Gomez opened up about how learning about herself inspired Rare, as well as her new beauty brand of the same name.

"The whole theme of my last album was a lot of self-discovery, a lot of being OK, being alone and being vulnerable, being OK with not looking like everything else, like everyone else," she said during a panel. "And I think for me, there's so much that I want my brand [Rare Beauty] to feel like."

Gomez also noted that feeling comfortable with oneself can take a lot of work, explaining that to believe in one's dreams "requires a check-in with yourself."

In September, Gomez told Rolling Stone that the feelings she displayed in her latest album are not representative of how she feels today.

"I wanted people to take away that this was a journey and that it was completely closed," she told the magazine. "I don't want people to see me as just sad and hurt. I didn't want that anymore."

"I wanted people to know that I experienced something real," she added, "and that part of me is over."
