The now 15-year-old who went viral on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has drastically changed her look and her sound.
Sophia Grace Brownlee is unrecognizable in her new music video for "Can’t Sleep" — and she likes it that way.
The now 15-year-old British child star who went viral on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" nearly a decade ago (she first appeared on the show in October 2011) has drastically changed her look and her sound. Sporting braces, baggy clothes, long locks and even longer nails, Sophia Grace is taking a stab at a rapping career.
"People say they want me to be the same as I was before, and it annoys me ’cause I’m not that person anymore," Sophia’s heard saying at the top of the video. "They always ask me to go back to how I was, but I’m different, and that’s not who I am. So I want to show people that I’m a different person now and that I’ve changed, but that’s okay because everyone changes."
The entire track is about the teenager’s desire to break free of the tutu she once wore and the wholesome persona she once embodied. The Nicki Minaj super-fan who gained fame for knowing every single word of "Super Bass" has set her sights on spitting her own verses.
"I can’t sleep, stayin’ up, wakin’ up, rollin’ round, gettin’ up / They want me to do what I do but I can’t do it anymore / Stay in your lane, who is she, what is she, no control, no control / Stay in your lane, feel like I’m a caged animal," Sophia raps in the chorus of her latest single, which she co-wrote.
