11-year-old boy charged with threatening to shoot up school

Long Island cops busted an 11-year-old Long Island boy who told classmates he had a bomb and a gun in his backpack– and planned to “do a school shooting,” officials said.

Police said the unidentified boy was on his school bus to Samoset Middle School in Lake Ronkonkoma when he made the claims to two other students.

The other students told employees at the school, who alerted police. Cops searched the boy’s bag and locker, and did not find a gun or explosives, they said.

The boy admitted to lying and was charged with making a terroristic threat, police said. He is scheduled to arraigned in family court at an undisclosed date.

Stuart K. Cameron, the chief of department for Suffolk County police, said the student’s young age should not excuse him from adult punishment.

“Keeping students safe in our schools is a top priority and all threats are treated seriously,” he said. “School attacks have been launched by students as young as 11-years-old.”
