A21 travel chaos – Huge 'explosions' and plumes of smoke as fuel tanker on fire in Kent

A FUEL tanker is on fire following a huge 'explosion' as plumes of smoke cause serious travel disruptions in Kent.

Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue and officers from Kent Police are at the scene of the burning vehicle on the A21 near Lamberhurst.


The road is currently closed in both directions between the A262 and Scotney Castle, according to reports.

Highways England wrote on Twitter: "A21 southbound Lamberhurst Bypass there is a vehicle fire.

"The road is currently closed in both directions between the A262 and Scotney Castle whilst kentfirerescue and KentPoliceRoads deal with the situation."

Posting a video of the massive plumes of black smoke filling the sky above the burning vehicle, one passerby wrote: "Massive explosions and plums of smoke, A21 bypass near Lamberhurst."

Another person wrote: "Fuel tank on fire on the Lamberhurst bypass.

"Avoid A21 at all costs!"
