Border guards find 21 Albanian stowaways trying to sneak into Britain on board container ship carrying wind turbine parts

  • Border Force officers met the ship when it arrived at the port on Wednesday

More than 20 suspected illegal Albanian immigrants have been found on a ship carrying turbine parts from Spain.

The vessel was held off the coastline before its arrival at Great Yarmouth Port, Norfolk, on Wednesday.

Border Force officers identified 21 stowaways on board who all presented as Albanian nationals.

Border Force was alerted to the vessel in the early hours of Tuesday while it was anchored five miles from the port. A Border Froce boat is pictured above [File photo] 

The 19 men and two minors will be dealt with in line with immigration rules.

A spokesman for Peel Ports, which operates the port, said: ‘We can confirm that stowaways have been identified on board the Rotra Mare heading for the Port of Great Yarmouth.’

Border Force was alerted to the vessel in the early hours of Tuesday while it was anchored five miles from the port.

Officers met the ship when it berthed at the port on Wednesday afternoon.

They worked together with Norfolk Police, the Coastguard, the Great Yarmouth Port Harbour Master and the vessel’s agent to deal with the discovery.
