Boss pours petrol on worker, 13, and sets her on fire after trying to rape her

A 13-year-old girl was set on fire by her boss after he tried to rape her, according to police.

The 26-year-old – married with a pregnant wife – allegedly carried out the attack in Khammam town in the southern Indian state of Telangana on September 18.

It only came to light on October 5 after police disclosed the horrifying details.

The victim was hired as a caretaker to look after a bed-ridden man in the house, Gulf News reports.

She was rushed to hospital with burns covering 70% of her body after the assault, and her condition is thought to be stable.

The victim is a Dalit, from the lowest Indian caste formerly known as the untouchables.

Khammam police commissioner Tafseer Iqubal told the Times of India: “When the girl resisted the man, he got angry, poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.

“Later, she was shifted to a private hospital. We are investigating who brought her to the hospital.

“As far as we know, the accused himself brought her there.”

The commissioner added: “The accused has been arrested and charged with attempt to rape and attempt to murder.”

The victim’s family were not told about the attack until October 5.

Hospital staff also failed to alert police, with managers claiming they thought the girl had accidentally got burnt.

Commissioner Iqubal has requested a transfer to a different hospital so the victim may receive better treatment.

There are approximately 166.6 million Dalits in India, who continue to face widespread oppression and atrocities.

On September 29, one died from her injuries after allegedly being gang raped and tortured in the district of Hathras in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Four men allegedly took the 19-year-old by the scarf before raping and trying to strangle her on September 14.

The victim’s spinal cord was damaged and her tongue, which apparently got caught between her teeth, was split.
