Commerce City police warn of telephone scam demanding payment for warrant
A person falsely claiming to be a Commerce City police sergeant is making local telephone calls as part of a scam.
“The caller informs people they have a warrant and requests payments,” according to a news release. “This is a scam, the caller is not a police officer, and the public is reminded the Commerce City Police Department will never solicit money, gift cards, or payment over the phone.”
Police said they’ve fielded several reports on the scam recently.
Law enforcement agencies in Colorado do not attempt to serve arrest warrants by telephone. People receiving such calls should never give out personal or financial information. Anyone who believes they are a victim should contact their local police. Commerce City police can be reached at 303-288-1535.
