Coroner identifies remains found in bushland as Carol Clay and Russell Hill

The Coroner has confirmed that remains found in Victoria’s high country in November are those of missing campers Russell Kill and Carol Clay.

Victoria Police said on Monday afternoon that the human remains found as part of their days-long search in bushland near Dargo, in the state’s high country, were those of the pair.

“Victoria Police can confirm that forensic testing on human remains located near Dargo in November 2021 has now been completed,” a short statement said.

“The Coroner has advised Victoria Police that the remains are that of Russell Hill and Carol Clay. As the matter is before the court, we will not be providing any further comment.”

Mr Hill and Ms Clay went missing while camping in the Wonnangatta Valley in March 2020 before their burnt-out campsite was reported to the authorities.

In November last year, pilot and frequent camper Greg Lynn, 55, was charged with two counts of murder following days of questioning at Sale police station.

During a brief court appearance, he made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear in court in May.
