If approved, the measure would allow the mayor of Denver and/or any three council members to call a special meeting of the council as long as they provide written notice at least 24 hours in advance.
The case for: This would afford the council greater independence and versatility in calling meetings, which has proven challenging throughout the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The case against: If not properly publicized, meetings called with just a day’s notice in advance could easily be overlooked by members of the public to whom the meetings rightfully are open.
Ballot question: “Shall Article III, Part 3, of the Charter of the City and County of Denver be updated to remove outdated language and allow for modernization of the conduct of city business?”
