Denver weather: Another red flag warning raised Thursday as strong winds arrive

Another red flag warning is in effect for the Denver area, the foothills and much of eastern Colorado from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

After a record-tying day of 90 degree heat Wednesday, the red flag warning marks the third this week, with the weather service advising residents to use caution to avoid the start and spread of a wildfire. Low humidity combined with high winds could create rapid growth of flames.

A high of 73 degrees is expected with winds reaching 16 to 26 mph and gusts up to 40 mph today. The overnight low is expected to be 44.

Similar weather is expected to continue Friday, with a high of 76 degrees and winds between 7 and 15 mph.

Sunny, warm weather is forecast through the weekend, with a high of 82 degrees, and expected to rise to the high 80s early next week.

A slight chance of rain and thunderstorms could come early next week to interrupt the stretch of sunny weather.
