DONALD Trump has been targeted by online abuse from trolls saying they "hope he dies" after he revealed he had tested positive for covid.
Twitter users also told the President to "try drinking bleach" in reference to when Trump suggested injecting patients with disinfectant to treat the deadly virus.
The President, 74, announced his positive result this morning – hours after it was revealed his top aide tested positive for COVID.
Some people online have called the diagnosis the "first good news of 2020" -with just 32 days until the presidential election.
Another tweeted: "We are waiting to see you drink bleach. #TrumpHasCovid"
One user said: "Not to be mean or anything but I hope he dies."
Another joked: "Donald, don't worry. All you have to do is inject some bleach.
"Like a miracle, it'll disappear.
"Thoughts and prayers."
The US President had previously suggested injecting covid patients with disinfectant to kill the virus – a comment which drew widespread criticism from medical professionals.
Actor Dominic West has sparked outrage for telling Good Morning Britain he "jumped for joy" after hearing Donald Trump's coronavirus diagnosis.
The Affair star, 50, said: "Well I did slightly leap in the air with joy."
He added: "I just hope it doesn't interfere with him being elected out of office that's all."
Donald Trump tweeted this morning: "Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19.
"We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately.
"We will get through this TOGETHER!"
It comes after Hope Hicks – one of his closest advisers – tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
Piers Morgan took aim at those who were making light of the President's positive test – calling those who were joking he might die "despicable".
He said: "Nobody’s been more critical of Trump over covid than me. But I don’t want him or his wife to die from it. Those who do are despicable.
"Interesting to see those who’ve spent the last few years screaming that Trump’s an uncaring, heartless empathy-devoid b*stard now spewing their gleeful joy that he & his wife have a deadly virus. They’re no better than the man they loathe."
This morning the physician to the President said the pair are "both well at this time" and will remain at home within the White House during their recovery.
Sean Conley said: "I release the following information with the permission of President Donald J.Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
"This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
"The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.
"The White House Medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country's greatest medical professionals and institutions.
"Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments."
