Families had to swap bodies at last minute after discovering mix-up at funeral

Grieving family members were devastated to discover during a funeral service that the bodies of their relatives had been mixed up.

The funeral, which was taking place in Hincesti, Moldova, was the send off for an elderly woman who had died from coronavirus.

Following local Covid-19 health guidelines, the woman was put in a body bag to prevent the infection from spreading.

This had caused issues for the undertakers, as they were unable to open the bag to check they had the right person.

And when the family received an ornate coffin with personal decorations, they suspected they had not been sent the right person.

After spotting men’s clothing, they called the funeral home in a panic.

Video footage shows a woman, thought to be a local morgue worker, reassuring relatives it was the right person.

But staff decided to open the body bag to check, and were shocked to discover the bodies had been mixed up and a man was inside.

As this took place during the funeral, workers had to quickly request the correct person was sent over before the service could continue.

There were fears the family’s female relative had been buried or cremated elsewhere – but thankfully the discovery came just in time.

The body of the right person was sent over and swapped at the last minute.

Reports say the rest of the burial service went ahead smoothly.
