Horror flat filled with piles of rubbish so high landlord couldn’t open door

A man was left disgusted and "trapped" by the rubbish left in a room he had rented to someone with a hoarding disorder.

While many people have had to deal with untidy roommates, this landlord, who lets out rooms in a property he owns in Wallasey, Merseyside, said the mess he discovered after one tenant moved out of the house was "beyond belief".

And the grossed-out homeowner was eager to prove just how dire the situation was, sharing a video with the Liverpool Echo that showed the extent of the mess that was left by the untidy tenant.

In the video old tubs of Pot Noodles, a pile of cigarette stubs, and milk bottles filled with a mystery brown liquid can be seen in the disgusting room.

The landlord, who wished to remain anonymous, said he wasn't even able to get into the room through the door because the waste obstructed it, forcing him to climb through a window to enter the room – where he then became "trapped" thanks to the sheer volume of mess.

He said: "We had no alternative in the end but to try and get in through one of the windows.

"I managed to get a ladder long enough. I'd hurt myself getting up the ladder but as I got to the top and saw the sight before me I quickly forgot about the pain.

"It's beyond belief. It's unbelievable."

He said that he couldn't get out through the door or window once he was in the room as it was "too dangerous", meaning he was now trapped in the makeshift dumping ground.

Even once he was free of the nightmarish room, clearing out the room was no easy feat either as the landlord was forced to take extra precautions to empty the disgusting living quarters – fearing that some of the rubbish might even be dangerous to his health.

He said: "To empty it we had to use complete throwaway overalls with masks and breathing apparatus."
