Ian Wright’s boxing trainer stabbed to death with broken glass in bridge attack

A boxing trainer who worked with football pundit Ian Wright as well as other celebs was murdered with a piece of glass in an attack on Saturday.

Reece Newcombe has been named as the victim of an attack that took place near Richmond Bridge, South West London, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 31-year-old has previously helped to train the former Crystal Palace and Arsenal forward for a charity boxing match.

He'd also trained other famous faces, including actor and SAS Rogue Heroes star Jack O'Connell.

Reece, from Feltham, West London, became a first-time dad to a baby girl just five months ago.

His family have been left devastated by his killing and wrote on social media: "This is the hardest thing for us to write.

"We are truly heartbroken at the loss of our son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin.

"Words cannot describe our grief. Our family is broken and never will be the same again without Reece's larger than life personality.

"As a family, we will make sure his darling daughter Misse will know all about her Daddy and how much he loved her and how much he was loved by everyone.”

They added: "We appreciate everyone's love and support. RIP our beloved Reecey Bear."

Following the tragic news of his death, a fundraiser set up by Reece's best friend Dobbo to raise money for his young daughter has generated over £48,000 in donations.

Dobbo said that Reece "didn't have a bad bone in his body".

He wrote: "Reece was a loveable, fun guy loved by all. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body. He made an impact on everyone he met. Devastatingly over the weekend Reece was murdered, leaving his daughter Misse behind.

"I want to raise money to give Misse the first Christmas and start in life her dad would have wanted.

"I must stress I have only started this as so many people have asked if there is a way to give some money for baby Misse."

Police were called to a fight on Richmond Bridge at around 4am on Saturday morning, where they found that Reece had sustained serious injuries after being stabbed with what they suspect was a shard of glass.

Officers administered CPR at the scene before Reece was rushed to hospital, where he died later in the morning.

No arrests have been made yet and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin, who is leading the investigation, said: "We believe a number of people watched the incident unfold and some onlookers may have recorded footage on their mobile phones.

"Anyone who has yet to speak to us is urged to come forward immediately. My team are working to provide Reece's family with answers and the public could have valuable information that will help our investigation".
