Ivan Maldonado identified as victim found in abandoned Colorado Springs car

Colorado Springs police identified Ivan Maldonado, 30, as the victim found in a vehicle on the side of the road near Interstate 25 and the Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass last week.

Police said Maldonado was a resident of Dallas, Texas.

Police did not share details about the cause of Maldonado’s death but said they are investigating his death as a homicide. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

On Dec. 20 around 7 a.m., CSPD received a report of a suspicious vehicle — a gray, four-door truck — on the side of the road near I-25 and the Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass in the southbound lanes. Police found Maldonado’s body inside the car. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Maldonado’s death is the 53rd homicide investigation in Colorado Springs in 2022. Colorado Springs police investigated 43 homicides this time last year, according to the department.

Anyone with information or who is a witness to this investigation is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000.
