Kate Middleton fans heap praise on ‘down to Earth’ Duchess after Xmas concert

Kate Middleton hosted a special Christmas Carol concert at Westminster Abbey yesterday to honour Covid heroes who supported their communities during the pandemic.

Royal Family fans went wild on social media, praising Kate’s scarlet £3,000 Catherine Walker coat which was teamed with a Miu Miu and a pair of earrings that once belonged to the late Queen Mother.

They noted, in particular, the heartfelt note welcoming people to the event which was simply signed “Catherine”, which was described as "real" and "down to earth".

The Duchess wrote: “Christmas is a time when we can reflect on the past, listen to one another, focus on the relationships that nurture us and build our resilience so we can look forward to a brighter shared future”.

The concert – which was filmed for the BBC but will be aired on ITV following the spat over Amol Rajan’s controversial royal documentary – featured stars including Ellie Goulding and Leona Lewis but all eyes were on the glittering guest list.

Alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were Kate’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and their other children James and Pippa.

There was family support for Wills too, in the shape of the Countess of Wessex, Princess Beatrice, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Eugenie, as well as Mike and Zara Tindall.

Social media users were quick to comment on the glittering affair, with one Cambridge fan writing “This is how you combat the toxicity from the Sussexes” and another pointing out “Aw sweet! William has matched his tie to Catherine's coat!”

There was criticism though, too, from Twitter user Freda Wallace who said she was “only interested in Harry and Meghan,” because “these two are as dull as ditchwater.”

When another Twitter user complained that Kate’s parents should not have been seated in the Royal Box, one angry Cambridge supporter responded: “they were next to the royal box, not in it,” and added “the Duchess can invite whomever she wishes to her Christmas carol concert.

“You’re just mad because Meghan ghosted her family and took Harry away from his.”

Sean Kicklighter wanted to have it both ways, saying: “Kate racking up the points, whereas Meghan lost hers forever.… but I bet the latter is way more fun to be around and know..”
