Man arrested as domestic violence suspect in Fort Collins beating death of a woman

A man in Fort Collins has been arrested as a suspect in the beating death of a woman in a domestic violence case.

At about 11 p.m. Saturday officers responded to a parking lot at the Whispering Pines apartments, 525 Drake St., where they found a woman who had been assaulted, according to a news release. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she died.

Stephen McNeil, 20, was arrested at about noon on Sunday as a suspect in the case. McNeil, who knew the victim, according to police, is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, domestic violence, violation of a protection order and violation of bail bond conditions.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim,” said Lt. Jeremy Yonce, in the release. “This heinous act of violence took a woman’s life and forever changed the lives of her loved ones. We will continue working diligently to support her family and seek justice.”

The Larimer County Coroner will release the identity of the woman along with the cause and manner of death. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 970-221-6575. Tips can also be left with Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868.
