Man charged with first-degree murder in Jefferson County shooting.

A 49-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder for a shooting in Jefferson County.

William Robert Taft has also been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a previous offender, possession of a prohibited large capacity magazine, possession of a defaced firearm and two counts of violation of a protective order in the death of 40-year-old Michael Dean Bryan, according to the district attorney’s office. He’ll also face two violent crime counts.

On Oct. 24, sheriff’s deputies were called to 5080 McIntyre St. on a report of a shooting and they found Bryan lying outside a residence. Bryan was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Taft resided on the property where Bryan was found and the two had an altercation prior to the shooting, according to an arrest affidavit.

The defendant, who is being held without bond, appeared in court last week for an advisement hearing. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1.
