Mom accused of stabbing young daughters, driving off bridge with them

A Colorado woman is behind bars for allegedly trying to murder her two young children — with cops claiming that she stabbed the pair and then drove off a bridge with them and into a river.

Christina Martinez, 33, was arrested Tuesday following a weeks-long investigation by the Otero County Sheriff’s Office.

Cops say she attacked her daughters, ages 8 and 10, at their home in Manzanola on March 31 and then drove them to the Arkansas River Bridge in her SUV. With them both suffering from stab wounds, Martinez allegedly launched the vehicle off the side of the bridge and into the water below. Everyone survived.

On Tuesday, Martinez was released from the hospital and immediately arrested. She was being held at the Otero County Jail in southern Colorado on a $500,000 bond — charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of felony child abuse and arson. Her first court appearance is scheduled for April 24.
