Raging mother-of-three, 38, avoids jail after savagely attacking love rival who she found in bed with her ex during fit of jealousy in front of their four-year-old son

  • The mother-of-three, from Hull, pulled the victims hair, punched and bit her
  • Judge Ahmed Nadim handed her a 12-month sentence suspended for two years

A mother-of-three has been handed a suspended sentence after she attacked a woman she discovered in bed with her ex partner.

Marie Wilkinson, 38, took her four-year-old son to visit her ex-partner at his home in Hull on December 19 last year.

But when the man answered the door, Wilkinson made her way into the property after spotting a handbag and a pair of shoes. She made her way to the bedroom, where she could be heard banging on the door and shouting.

She then attacked the woman, a single mother-of-two, grabbing her by her hair, punching her and biting her.

Catherine Kioki-Gilligan, prosecuting, told Hull Crown Court that the victim sustained injuries to the rear and back of her head, and had to be taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where her injuries were glued.

‘A scuffle involving them all ensued,’ she said. ‘She said she was also injured and it was noted she had a bite mark to her forearm, although she was unable to say how this had happened.’

Wilkinson told police she had recently separated from her ex-partner and had gone to his house because her son had wanted to see him.

The court heard that the victim has suffered financially and emotionally as a result of the incident.

‘She was shocked and scared and feared for her life,’ Ms Kioki-Gilligan said. ‘She didn’t think the defendant was going to stop.

Wilkinson (pictured) told police she had recently separated from her ex-partner and had gone to his house because her son had wanted to see him.

‘She [was]  heartbroken that her children saw her coming home in a police vehicle with the injuries she had.

‘Her five-year-old keeps asking her if the ‘bad lady’ is going to get her mum again and her eight-year-old will not even look at her or discuss what had happened.’

Mark Savage, mitigating, told the court that Wilkinson was remorseful for the attack that took place during an ‘impromptu visit’, and that her ex-partner’s new relationship was ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back.’

‘She expresses remorse to this young woman,’ he said. ‘She can’t control what she has done but she has to be a role model for her three children. She is not a young woman without a great deal of compassion for anybody.

‘That little boy has constantly sought to see his dad and this was an impromptu visit.

Wilkinson was handed a 12-month sentence suspended for two year at Hull Crown Court

Judge Ahmed Nadim handed Wilkinson of Summergangs Road in east Hull a 12-month sentence suspended for two years, and she has been ordered to undergo rehabilitation.

‘I have no difficulty in concluding that you had a difficult relationship with this man [her former partner,]’ he said.

‘You entered his home motivated by an emotion of jealousy. You knew that at the time you presented yourself at the address he was in the company of the complainant.

‘You wanted your four-year-old son to see what his father was up to. Is it the remorse you are concerned about or the consequences that bother you?’
