Irish police have shot dead a man who was being hunted over the disappearance of a 24-year-old woman.
Gardai officers this evening located a man they were looking for in the search for missing Jastine Valdez, from Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.
The suspect was found in Cherrywood in south Dublin – and the man shot has been named locally as dad-of-two Mark Hennessy.
Missing student Jastine has still not been found.
It is believed the man was initially approached by investigators and police have confirmed that at least one shot was fired.
A source told the Irish Mirror that the man pulled out a knife when confronted by gardai, yet to be confirmed.
It is understood he was struck in the head and arm by the bullets, the Irish Mirror reports.
Gardai were led to the area when a phone mast registered the presence of the man’s phone.
Student Ms Valdez, 24, was last seen when she left her home in Enniskerry on Saturday afternoon.
She was reported missing by her family late Saturday night.
Gardai searching for her appealed to anyone who has seen this car a black Nissan Qashqai with a registration of 171 D 20419.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai investigating the disappearance of Jastine Valdez interacted with the driver of a vehicle at approximately 8pm this evening the 20 May 2018 in the Cherrywood area of Dublin.
"An official Garda firearm was discharged. The incident has been referred to GSOC as per protocol.
"Gardai have located a 171 D Nissan Qashqui they had earlier appealed for at the scene of the shooting.
"Gardai continue to appeal for Jastine Valdez and also for anyone who may have seen the movements of the 171 D Nissan Qashqui since yesterday to 8pm today the 201th May 2018."
Ms Valdez’s reported disappearance followed an earlier incident near Enniskerry when Gardai received a report of a female pedestrian being forced into a car on the (R760) south of Enniskerry.
The car involved in this incident was described to Gardaí as a dark coloured Nissan SUV.
Jastine is described as approximately 5ft in height, of slight build with long black hair and brown eyes.
When last seen she was wearing a dark coloured jacket, white t-shirt, grey leggings and runners.
The scene on the R760 is currently preserved and local traffic diversions are in place.
