Prince Charles ’embarrassed himself on date with Camilla’ that ended in disaster

Prince Charles "embarrassed" himself during a date with Camilla Parker-Bowles early on in their relationship, royal expert Ingrid Seward has claimed.

The Queen’s son had wanted to impress his now-wife so much he took her out to dinner and tried to wow her with an expensive bottle of wine.

Charles was reportedly so nervous he accidentally ruined the romantic date by knocking over the bottle of wine as he moved his hand.

Speaking to Channel 5 documentary 'Before They Were Royal,' Ms Seward claimed Charles told her a "wonderful story" about a date with a girl "who was obviously Camilla."

Ms Seward said Prince Charles "really wanted to impress her" and so "ordered the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu."

She said: "Charles, actually himself, told me a wonderful story about going out with a girl who was obviously Camilla.

"He really wanted to impress her so he ordered the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu."

Ms Seward added: "And Charles just sort of moved his hand and knocked the bottle over.

"And he said he was so humiliated, trying to impress this girl and then knocking this expensive bottle of wine."

Fortunately for Charles, his blunder didn’t matter as the pair begun a short relationship with her in the early 1970s before breaking up with her for Princess Diana.

The couple found their way back to each other in 2005 and married in a civil ceremony at St George's Chapel.

Royal author Penny Junor suggested Charles was fond of Camilla as she was not "over-awed by him, at all."

Ms Junor said she "didn't care" she was dating the Prince of Wales but instead liked him for him.

She said: "I think what attracted Charles to Camilla was the fact she was not over-awed by him, at all.

"The fact that she was going out with the Prince of Wales…he could have been Joe Blocks, she didn't care."
