President Trump said Thursday that he might attend a World Series game between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros on Sunday — if the series isn’t over by then.
Speaking at an unrelated event at the White House, the president said he might take in the game at Nationals Park, located along the Anacostia River in DC’s Navy Yard.
But the commander in chief joked about his heft when asked if he would be throwing out the first pitch.
“I don’t know, they got to dress me up in a lot of heavy armor — I’ll look too heavy,” he quipped.
The Nationals took the first two games in hostile territory in Houston and could wrap up the Series if they win home games Friday and Saturday night and sweep the ‘Stros in the best-of-seven contest.
The president has not appeared publicly in the capital as frequently as many of his predecessors, preferring to remain in the White House, with occasional trips to his golf club in Virginia or the Trump International Hotel in downtown Washington for dinner.
To date, Trump, who played baseball in military school and was a frequent presence at Yankee Stadium, has not attended a Major League Baseball game while in office.
