Intelligence from the Pentagon revealed more than a quarter of Putin’s “combat power” – including soldiers, tanks, armoured vehicles, jets and helicopters – had been lost as the invasion enters its 56th day. The revelation comes as Russian Defence Ministry proposed a ceasefire in the besieged port city Mariupol. The southeastern city, which has come under sustained attack since the start of the war, would create a landbridge between Russia and Crimea. It is understood the remainder of the city’s defence forces are holding out in underground bunkers in the Azovstal steel factory. Ukraine has not yet commented on the proposal.
