Wildfire burning north of Lyons in Larimer County

A wildfire is burning in the Blue Mountain area north of Lyons in Larimer County and the sheriff’s office has ordered evacuations in some areas.

Evacuations are ordered for the Vision Way and County Road 37E area, the sheriff’s office said. There are also evacuation orders for residents on Dakota Ridge Road and Chimney Hollow Road.

An evacuation point is set up at the Lifebridge Church parking lot, 10345 Ute Hwy, Longmont.

A section of Moss Rock Drive, that dips into Boulder County, has been issued an evacuation notice. An Everbridge alert has been sent to the affected area, according to the Boulder Office of Emergency Management.

Evacuation orders for residents south and east of County Road 37E extend to the county line with Boulder.

“As always, if you feel unsafe at any time, please evacuate and do not wait for an evacuation order,” the Boulder OEM said.

The 37E fire has shut down Blue Mountain Road at the intersection of U.S. 36; as well as N. 53rd Street at the intersection of Colorado 66.

The fire released a large, thick plume of smoke into the evening sky. The fire was burning close to some homes in the area.

Smoke from the fire is impacting local air quality, an Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke has been issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The National Weather Service posted a Red Flag Warning for fire danger in the area that is set to expire at 7 p.m. Friday. Low humidity, around 15%, and winds gusting to 30 mph prompted the warning.

“Any fire that develops will have the potential to spread rapidly,” according to the warning. “Outdoor burning should be avoided, as well as any activity that may produce a spark and start a fast-moving wildfire.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
