An elderly woman was found shot dead at “Tarzan” star Ron Ely’s California home — and the armed suspect was gunned down by cops, according to reports.
It was not initially clear if the 81-year-old acting legend was at his Santa Barbara home at the time or involved in any of Tuesday night’s deadly drama, according to local reports.
However, deputies told CBSLA that the star was not believed to have been involved in the shooting. An elderly man was later taken to a hospital for evaluation, but it was not clear if it was the actor best known for the 1960s’ hit show “Tarzan.”
Officers were first called to reports of a domestic dispute when they found the unidentified woman dead, according to KEYT News. It was not clear how she was connected to the actor.
Police then found an armed suspect still on the property in the exclusive Hope Ranch community — with local crews capturing the sound of a volley of shots fired as he was killed by officers from Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Office.
“We don’t know exactly how many shots were fired. We did have several deputies that were involved in the shooting,” Lt. Erik Raney told KEYT. “Fortunately all of our deputies are OK.”
The deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, Raney said.
Ely’s reps did not immediately return calls from multiple local news outlets.
As well as playing Tarzan from 1966 to 1968, Ely also starred in “Fantasy Island” as well as the 1975 film “Doc Savage: The Man of Iron and Bronze.” He also hosted the Miss America pageant in the 1980s.
He retired in 2001, just to come back for one more role in the 2014 TV movie, “Expecting Amish.”
