The baby was found discarded in a cardboard box with her umbilical cord still attached by a man playing Pokemon Go near a construction site in Zhonghe district, New Taipei City on Wednesday.

The infant was immediately transported to hospital where she was treated for hypothermia, according to Taiwan media reports.

Officers located the mother 12 hours after the baby was found, CTV News reported.

The migrant mother arrived in Taiwan last March and worked at an electronics factory, where she met and started dating a Vietnamese man.

However, she only realised that she was pregnant after her boyfriend left Taiwan at the beginning of this year and decided to keep it a secret, fearing that her employer would fire and deport her back to Vietnam.
