Donald Trump is skipping the second Republican presidential debate later this month but there is one person he’d like to meet for a head-to-head matchup: Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.

The former president told radio host Hugh Hewitt that he’d ‘love’ to debate Meghan, noting he didn’t ‘like the way she dealt with the Queen.’

And he noted the Queen, who was 96 when she died, was much sharper at her age than President Joe Biden is at 80.

Trump has repeatedly attacked Biden as ‘Sleepy Joe’ and he’s previously criticized Meghan and Harry for being ‘disrespectful’ of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

But Trump did concede he’d love to meet Meghan on the debate state.

‘Let’s set it up. Let’s go do something. I’d love to debate her. I would love it,’ Trump told Hewitt on Wednesday morning.

‘I didn’t like the way she dealt with the Queen. I became very friendly with the Queen. She was an incredible woman,’ Trump said. ‘I think it’s not a good situation going on with the two of them, but I didn’t know that they don’t like me. Somebody mentioned it might be possible. They wouldn’t be the only ones.’

Trump paid tribute to the late Queen in an op-ed for DailyMail.com.

But Meghan, who had been a vocal critic of Trump and his policies before her marriage to Harry, skipped the state events, citing her maternity leave. She had recently given birth to their oldest child Archie.

In the interview, Trump also compared the cognitive abilities of the Queen to Biden.

‘At 95, she was so sharp. She was 100%. When you watch Biden, you say this is a different planet,’ he said.

Biden met the Queen in June 2021, shortly after he became president, when he was in England for the G7 summit.

Trump, in a March interview with Nigel Farage, suggested his 80-year-old political rival was not up to it ‘physically’ making the trip, and said if he was president he would have gone.

He said: ‘I think that it’s hard for him to do it physically. I think, getting over here for him.

‘He’s got a lot of things going and a lot of strange things happen. But certainly he should be here as a representative of our country. I was surprised when I heard that he wasn’t coming.

‘You would think he would be here, he’ll be in Delaware where he spends a lot of time, he spent a lot of time there during the election.

‘So I don’t know, but I was very surprised to see I think it’s very disrespectful for him not to be.’

He added: ‘That man is incompetent, and it’s a shame.

‘He can’t even come to your Coronation as a country, and your Coronation’s a big event.

‘When you have somebody that’s going to be sleeping instead of coming to the coronation as president of the United States, I think it’s a bad thing.

‘The reason is he’s sleeping. It shouldn’t happen. It’s disrespectful.

When asked by Farage whether he would have attended if he was president, Trump said: ‘I would.’

He added: ‘I think it’s a very important event. I think it’s a great thing. A lot of people talk about the monarchy should you have it, should you not, I think it’s a fantastic thing. It holds your country together largely.’

Trump skipped the first Republican presidential primary debate and has said he would skip the second one.

He and his allies have argued that with his double-digit lead in the polls, he doesn’t need to appear next to the other contenders, none of whom come close to him in polling.

The Republican National Committee is said to be considering Alabama for the site of the third debate. Trump is very popular in that state and it’s close to his Florida home.

The former president told Hewitt he would consider attending.

‘Well, I won Alabama in the highest number anybody has ever won, which is very interesting, because I set a record in Alabama,’ he said, adding: ‘I’ll make that decision. I would love to go to anything involved with Alabama. But when you’re up 50 points…’

The second Republican presidential primary debate will take place on September 27 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.
