A SAVVY saver has shared the important reason why you need to get rid of all the extra ice in your freezer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It turns out all that extra ice could be costing you a fortune in energy bills.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

The TikToker, called Gittermary, revealed she checks her freezer regularly for ice build up to save on energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said in a TikTok video online: \u201cDid you know that the ice in your freezer has a pretty big impact?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust two millilitres of ice increases your energy use by 20%\u201d<\/p>\n

This is because ice acts as an insulator which makes your freezer work harder, so it'll cost more to run.<\/p>\n

When Gittemary checked her freezer she has a lot of ice build up\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely had more than two millilitres of ice build up in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The savvy saver had to melt the ice to so that it would make it easier to remove.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cTo fix that I boiled a pot of water and stuck it in the freezer for 10 minutes before I started scraping away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gittermary\u2019s video went viral with over 1.3million views online.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One user said: \u201cWhy didn't I think of putting boiling water there instead of turning off the whole fridge until it melts off?\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cHairdryer helps to clean the ice much faster.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third viewer advised: \u201cRemember to check the seal on your freeze too. If moisture is getting in that\u2019s how your ice builds up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are more ice than food in mine,\u201d said a fourth viewer<\/p>\n

Someone else advised: \u201cDo it in the winter so you can put the food outside.\u201d<\/p>\n
