<\/p>\nA TREASURED bakery is closing after more than 90 years and fans have said they'll miss the "best biscuits ever".<\/p>\n
Vanes the Bakers in Dover, Kent, has announced it will shut its doors in the coming months.<\/p>\n

The independent retailer, described as a "real treasure", will shut after its owner, Jeff Vane, said he was planning to retire.<\/p>\n
In a recent post on the bakery's Facebook page, he said: "It's time to tell you that Vanes the family bakers will start to wind down to an eventual close in the coming months.<\/p>\n
"Vanes the Bakers has had four generations of family bakers and been in business for more than 90 years."<\/p>\n
He added: "This has been a very big decision taken over a period of time, but as I approach retirement age and find myself in the new role of granddad, I feel it is time to start winding down the business to an eventual close."<\/p>\n
The shock announcement has been met with devastation by local residents, with many saying they'll miss the bakery's iconic Mr Blobby biscuits.<\/p>\n One said: "Sad news that yet another family-run business in Dover is closing. The best bread and the best cakes."<\/p>\n Another said: " Best biscuits ever! All the best for your retirement."<\/p>\n Meanwhile, a third said: "I will miss you so much. Who will make my spicy hot cross buns without fruit?"<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n A fourth said: "Gotta stock up on a lifetime supply of Blobbies," while a fifth added: "Very sad news, what will everyone do without the Mr Blobby biscuits."<\/p>\n It comes after a number of other smaller independent retailers across the UK close up for good.<\/p>\n Businesses have been struggling to stay afloat as consumers turn increasingly to online shopping and away from physical stores.<\/p>\n That, on top of higher energy and wage costs, has seen plenty of retailers announcing closures.<\/p>\n One of the UK's oldest rose farms, Cants of Colchester, is closing at the end of the month.<\/p>\n The firm has launched a huge closing down sale and shoppers can get discounted flowers and plants.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, a beloved family fishmonger is closing down after nearly 60 years.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/frontage-brand-logo-branch-german-840821780-7.jpg\"){kind=logo}
