More Hamas militants reportedly crossed into Israel overnight into Wednesday, pushing Israeli residents back into safe rooms as clashes escalate.<\/p>\n
Residents of Ashkelon were said\u00a0to have been told to head to safe spaces following reports of militants moving east over the border, according to the BBC.<\/p>\n
Israel also carried out airstrikes back into Gaza early on Wednesday as retaliatory bombing continued to flatten entire neighbourhoods in the coastal enclave.<\/p>\n
It comes as Israel prepares for an anticipated ground offensive back into Gaza, having announced the mobilisation of some 360,000 reservists.<\/p>\n
Speaking to soldiers near the border on Tuesday, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said: ‘Hamas wanted a change and it will get one. What was in Gaza will no longer be.<\/p>\n
‘We started the offensive from the air, later on we will also come from the ground. We’ve been controlling the area since Day 2 and we are on the offensive. It will only intensify.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
Some 1,900 people have been reported to have died in the conflict since Saturday, including 1,000 dead in Israel and 900 in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Tuesday saw pressure on borders as Israel fired upon targets in Syria, in response to what they say were shells fired from a Palestinian faction.<\/p>\n
Rockets have also been fired back at Lebanon after a silo was launched from the country into Israel, for which no-one has yet claimed responsibility.<\/p>\n

Israeli airstrikes also struck the only land exit from Gaza into Egypt today, shortly after a senior IDF spokesperson advised civilians in the Strip to flee through it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sinai for Human Rights, an Egyptian NGO, said that strikes through Tuesday had forced the Rafah crossing shut.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The strikes came as a senior IDF spokesperson today advised Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to flee through the crossing – before the military issued a correction.<\/p>\n
The IDF’s international media spokesman, Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, had said: ‘Rafah crossing is still open. Anyone who can get out, I would advise them to get out.’<\/p>\n
The military later clarified: ‘In recent days, the IDF has been instructing the population inside of the Gaza Strip to distance themselves from designated areas.<\/p>\n
‘We emphasise that there is no official call by Israel for residents of the Gaza Strip to exit into Egypt.’<\/p>\n
Both Israel and Hamas have continued to launch devastating rocket barrages in the direction of the other.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari admitted ‘hundreds of tons of bombs’ had already been dropped on Gaza: ‘The emphasis is on damage and not accuracy.’<\/p>\n

As of Tuesday, there was no evidence this was the case, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n
