An ultra rare Blue Peter 50p coin, designed to celebrate the 2012 Olympic Games, has sold for more than 400 times its face value.<\/p>\n
The commemorative coin was issued in 2009, ahead of the London Olympics in 2012 and it was\u00a0only the 17th design to appear on the UK’s 50p.<\/p>\n
It was designed by nine year-old Florence Jackson, who won a Blue Peter competition, out of over 17,000 entries – she was the first child to ever work with the Royal Mint to design a UK coin.<\/p>\n
The drawing that made it onto the coin depicts a\u00a0the high-jump, celebrating the Olympic and Paralympic sport of Athletics.<\/p>\n
The rare piece of history recently sold for a whopping \u00a3207.27, after racking up eight bids on eBay, The Sun reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Royal Mind states around one in every four old \u00a31 coins were thought to be fake.<\/p>\n

If the coin is real, you can either sell it through a coin dealer, at auction or on eBay.<\/p>\n
This is more than 400 times it’s original selling price, as coin collectors are dying to get their hands on the ultra rare find.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Roughly 2.2 million of the coins were released into circulation in 2011, and now they go for a whopping price on retailers like eBay.<\/p>\n
The commemorative coins initially sold for \u00a31.09 as collectors items – now the prices have shot up into the hundreds.<\/p>\n
Another lucky person who had the 50p, sold it for \u00a3256.86, over 500 times it’s original price.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Right now, all you have to do is search for the coin on eBay and you will see listings that go up to \u00a3399 – with fans paying more if it’s in it’s original packaging.<\/p>\n
One that’s currently up for sale in it’s original packaging, has four bids with the highest being \u00a3215 at the time of writing.<\/p>\n
Florence’s fifty pence piece was part of a series of 29 officially licensed London 2012 50p coins, designed by the nation and it also features the\u00a0London 2012 logo.<\/p>\n
With a distinct design, it will be easy for Brits to find in their pocket change.<\/p>\n
Other rare 50p designs include the Kew Gardens design, which if you are lucky enough to have one, could fetch up to \u00a310,000 on eBay.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It\u00a0has a mintage of just 210,000 and is the most requested swap.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Also on the list is another coin from the same collection as Florence’s – a\u00a0 Judo 2012 Olympics coin, with scores a scarcity index of 90.<\/p>\n
It’s followed by the Flopsy Bunny 50p, which is listed on eBay for just under \u00a31,000.<\/p>\n
