The Met Office has issued updated weather warnings as millions of Brits could face flooding this weekend.

The yellow-level warnings cover Wales, the south-west of England and Northern Ireland.

In England and Wales the warnings are due to come into force at midnight tonight, lasting until 10am on Saturday (November 18). The Met Office told people in those regions: "Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible. Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible."

"Another area of rain will cross the UK heaviest during early Saturday, before it clears to the east during the morning," the Met Office said. The flood risk comes following "many weeks of above-average rainfall". The southern slopes of Dartmoor and the hills of southwest Wales could see up to 50mm of rain.

The warning in Northern Ireland comes into force at 9pm tonight (Friday, November 17) and lasts until 3am on Saturday. The Met Office said for people there: "Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely. Bus services probably affected with journey times taking longer. Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer."

People in South Down can expect the heaviest of the rain. Up to 25mm of rain is on the cards for most, and those on higher ground could see up to 50mm. The Met Office said: "Given saturated ground in the area, these sort of totals have the potential to lead to some disruption to transport and utilities."

The Met Office's general forecast for this weekend states that "sunny spells" should return on Sunday (November 19) following the deluge on Saturday. However, there is a risk of "blustery showers" on Monday (December 20).
