ALDI shoppers have been left fuming over "confusing" buying limit rules introduced on Kevin the Carrot toys.

The beloved characters returned to Aldi stores yesterday and shoppers queued from 4am to get their hands on them.

In an effort to make sure there were enough toys to go around, the supermarket said they were limiting purchases to two of each character per customer.

The rules has been shared on leaflets and posters inside Aldi stores, as well as on its website.

But some shoppers were left baffled after being told that the rule actually meant they were limited to two toys across the whole range.

The range of course includes Kevin, as well as William Conker and friends, who all star in Aldi's Christmas advert.

Writing on social media, one shopper said: "I'm confused with Aldi's policy about the toy limit.

"Is it two different toys for one customer, or two of the same two (e.g. two Kevin's) for one customer?

"My nephew wants the full set, but will he actually be able to?"

Kevin the Carrot fans rushed to the comment section to share their bewilderment.

One Facebook user said: "It's two of each character but my Aldi tried to tell me it's two of any.

"They called the manager and and I showed him the leaflet, so in the end, he had no choice but to let me buy one of each."

A second wrote: "As if we're meant to know what the rules are if staff don't!"

On Twitter, formerly known as X, one shopper asked Aldi to clarify the rules.

Aldi replied, writing: "We are limiting purchases to two products per customers in store to allow as many people as possible to the chance to buy them."

The shopper went back and asked why the website states that sales are limited to two of each character, if that's not the rule.

After getting no reply, they tweeted: "Interesting, they don't seem to be replying now."

Another X user said: "You can imagine the chaos (and worse) when everybody is after a complete set."

The Sun asked Aldi to clarify the rules and they said the limit is two of each character per customer.

This means that you could pick up two Kevin the Carrots, for example, as well as two William Conker toys.
