Cardi B & Offset really are on a break, Cardi said ‘I’ve been single for a minute now’

Last week, I made the lead link in the afternoon links post “Cardi B & Offset unfollowed each other on Instagram, are they splitting?” The reason I haven’t devoted a stand-alone post to any of this Cardi-Offset drama is that longtime Cardi fans have been here many times before. At least once a year, Cardi and Offset have a fight or she catches him cheating or she just gets tired of looking at him and they’re “over.” They stay broken up for a week or two and then they get back together. Well, we’re in another cycle. I’ve seen it all before – they’ll be back together by Christmas, but here’s the latest:

Cardi B has confirmed her single status in the wake of rumors about her relationship with Offset. The rapper, 31, got candid on Instagram Live over the weekend as she admitted, “I’ve been single for a minute now,” according to a recording of the livestream shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

She continued, “But I have been afraid… Not afraid, I just don’t know how to tell the world. But I feel like today has been, like, a sign.”

Cardi B said she wants to start the new year “fresh” and “open,” as she admitted, “I’m curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah… I’m excited.”

The relationship status update comes after the couple both attended the same event on Sunday night — TikTok In the Mix music festival in Mesa, Arizona — but were not photographed together. Representatives for the two rappers did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Cardi also said that she wants to “drop the dead weight” for the new year. Sure. She says all kinds of sh-t during their breakups. Once, she even filed for divorce. She still went back to him. She always does. Now, this is me preparing myself for it, it’s not wishful thinking on my part. I would love nothing more than seeing Cardi really and truly break up with Offset and for the split to stick. What happens is that Offset always finds a way to worm his way back, and he’s not above using her friends and family to work on his behalf. As I said, they’ll be back together by Christmas, mark my words.
