Christine McGuinness ‘lonely’ as she addresses dating rumours after furious Paddy rant
Christine McGuinness has insisted she’s “not interested” in dating after shutting down reports she got close to a footballer.
The former model, 35, confessed she’s “not in the right place” to be “dating”, 15 months after she announced her separation from her husband Paddy McGuinness.
And now a source has told OK! that while Christine is “feeling lonely” she’s also “happy in herself”. “It’s a nice kind of lonely,” the source claimed. “Christine’s embracing the time to be single and think about herself.”
Taking to Instagram last week, the reality star felt forced to set the record straight after rumours she and former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard “were chatting for ages” and “looked pretty close” while both at the Sexy Fish restaurant in Manchester.
“This man approached me inviting me to his restaurant, so I thought he was a restaurant owner – I had no idea who he was,” she said. “No offence, I’m sure he was a lovely fella, but I politely declined. I said no I can’t, I was at Pride Of Britain so I couldn’t go and that was it. That’s it, that’s the story.
“Absolutely nothing happened. I’m not in the right place mentally, physically, emotionally to be dating, to be entertaining anyone, to be cosying up. There is nobody at all on my radar. I’m not texting anyone, I’m not calling anyone, I’m not interested. I’m focusing on my children, I’m focusing on my work and I’m focusing on me.”
In a separate post, the former Real Housewives Of Cheshire regular, who holidayed in Ibiza over the summer with Chelcee Grimes, her co-star in The Games , described herself as a “happy little loner”. She and Chelcee have reportedly unfollowed each other on social media.
Following on from Christine’s comments, our source has confirmed she “doesn’t want to be tied down”.
“Christine’s single and just trying to have fun, but isn’t looking for anything serious or seeing anyone,” they claimed. “She’s had a tough time with the split from Paddy so is focusing on the kids and has a lot on her plate. She didn’t realise how much the Paddy situation hurt her and now she’s just happy being on her own.”
Christine and TV presenter Paddy, 50, announced their split in July 2022 and at the time explained it was a “difficult decision to separate”. The pair still live together as they continue to co-parent their children – 10-year-old twins, Leo and Penelope, and seven-year-old Felicity.
When asked if she had told the kids about the break-up, Christine previously said, “No, not at all. They’re so young. I’m trying to just stick to their normal routine – take them to school in the morning, pick them up, try to work while they’re at school and take them to after-school clubs and try to stick to normal life as much
as possible.”
Last week Paddy gave a rare insight into their co-parenting set-up when he declared on Channel 4 reality series Don’tLook Down that he would have to take a break from filming to take care of his children. He told his fellow celebs, “Unfortunately, today I’ve got to go home and I might not be back for at least a week. Co-parenting… We’ve no one at all to help us with the kids. With our children, they need me or Christine there or people who are in our support network.”
Soon after Paddy made the announcement, Christine took to Instagram to say she was “speechless” over something she’d just read, but remained tight-lipped over what it was. Speaking from inside her car, she fumed, “Just hold on a minute, Wow. I just read some absolute b******s. I mean, I’m like, yeah, speechless, mind blown, not shocked. But I will just sit here and keep my dignified silence.”
Christine and Paddy originally met in 2007 and they tied the knot in 2011. But after 15 years together, she said she had stayed in the marriage for “too long”.
“As an autistic woman, I like to stay where I am comfortable,” she said. “I like things to stay the same. And so that’s something I suppose I chose to do. But sometimes change has to happen.”
The source added Christine is hoping for a new chapter as the year draws to a close, after she was spotted house hunting last week.
“She wants new beginnings and a fresh start – there is a lot of the past at her current home,” they claimed. “She wants a new chapter but no relationships, just fun.”
