OutKast's Andre 3000 Drops Debut Solo Album 'New Blue Sun'
OutKast‘s Andre 3000 released his debut solo album, New Blue Moon, on Friday (November 17) via Epic Records.
The eight-song instrumental album is a surprise from the rapper, as the record is completely bar-free and has no beats.
The 87-minute collection of experimental jazz music features jazz musings of co-producer Carlos Nino. Surya Botofasina plays keyboards and synthesizers, and Nate Mercereau plays the guitar.
Andre 3000 himself plays a variety of wind instruments, including a digital wind instrument, a Maya flute, and others made of wood and bamboo.
“It’s not like I don’t try or it’s not like I have a lot of these songs just sittingโI have songs but it’s not like rap things that I really feel happy about sharing,” Andre 3000 told NPR‘s Rodney Carmichael on the “All Songs Considered” podcast. “And really, that’s the most important part.”
He added, “I have to feel happy about sharing it. That’s why New Blue Sun was something that I realized, whoa, I really want people to hear it. I really want to share it.”
