Strictly Come Dancing star announces engagement and shows off giant sparkler
Strictly Come Dancing star Rhys Stephenson has shared some lovely news on social media – he's engaged! The 30 year old telly presenter popped the question to his girlfriend Beth Johnson while they were on holiday in the Cayman Islands.
He posted a sweet photo of them celebrating on Instagram, with Beth showing off her new ring. He wrote: "She said yes! #caymanislands #engagement."
Loads of his Strictly mates rushed to say congrats, including Neil Jones, Rose Ayling-Ellis, and Tess Daly. Oti Mabuse was super excited, writing: "AAAAAAAAAHHHHH CONGRATULATIONS, WE LOVE TO SEE IT," along with lots of heart emojis. Janette Manrara added: "Amazing news!!!!"
Rhys, who danced with Nancy Xu on Strictly last year, has shared photos of him and Beth before, but they usually keep their relationship private. But when he was on Strictly, host Claudia Winkleman asked him what Beth thought about him doing the Argentine Tango to Phil Collins' song In The Air Tonight.
He replied: "Beth said 'If I'm not jealous, you're not doing it right.' So, Beth I hope you're both proud and jealous." Sadly, Rhys and Nancy didn't win the Glitterball Trophy as they were voted off in the semi-finals.
They found themselves in the bottom two and had to dance against John Whaite and his partner Johannes Radebe to try and stay in the show.
Nancy was very emotional on It Takes Two when she talked about being paired with Rhys. She told Rylan: "Teaching Rhys has been the most magical moment for me in this Strictly journey."
She added: "Yes, we didn't make it to the final but we had everyone's support behind us. They gave us their heart, supporting us in so many ways. I'm so grateful for everything. For Strictly to give me this chance and to give me this wonderful person to learn from me… I also learnt some much from him."
When asked how he felt after their elimination, Rhys said: "I feel good. I feel really proud of what we did and excited because… it was the semi finals! That semi final was intense, it was so good. That could have been the All Stars of Strictly so to be a part of that line up was incredible."
