Losing your luggage while travelling is one of the biggest holiday nightmares Brits can face.

Luckily, an airport worker took to social media to share a useful tip to avoid the terrible mishap.

On the footage he told travellers to make sure to remove any tags and stickers from previous flights on their luggage.

The employee said they have valuable information about your destination and any possible flight connections.

Proud travellers like to leave several stickers and tags on their suitcase to remind them of their past holidays.

But they can be interpreted wrong and your suitcase could accidentally end up in a different destination and ruin your trip.

He explained: "So if your month-old American sticker is on there, there’s a chance it scans it instead of this on.

"It might end up there and not on the plane."

The information scanned through the barcode on the tags is dated and the bag get processed accordingly to make sure it arrives to where the traveller is.

Pointing at the luggage conveyor belt, he told viewers where to find the tags.

"Let's say you flew American and then a month later, you flew Southwest,' he said while pointing to the luggage on the conveyor belt.

"Well, there's a little sticker that goes on for American that tells the computer that it should go to there," he explained.

Removing the tags reduces the chances of confusion and ensures that the correct destination information is displayed on your luggage.

The TikTok video has gone viral on social media and has so far been watched more than 470,000 times.

Hundreds of users rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts and experiences.

One user said: "I always remove the stickers after a trip to Brazil all the way back to the USA they send my luggage to New Zealand."

Another added: "I learnt that the second time I flew. I was a teen and frustrated the agent ripped my old tag off. When she explained it, I rip everything off now."
