Parents who booked all-inclusive ‘kids hotel’… are surprised to find it full of children

When booking a family-friendly holiday, one should know what to expect: entertainment for all ages, children running around with ice-lollies in hand, and parents taking a well-deserved break by relaxing on sun loungers. 

Well, not according to one set of parents, who took their toddler abroad to a child-friendly hotel and were shocked to find it ‘overcrowded’ with families.

Cecilie Mikkelsen, 26, from Denmark, posted a video to TikTok on July 2 during a stay at Alcudia Pins in Mallorca, Spain, with her partner and two-year-old toddler. 

The all-inclusive, four-star TUI BLUE hotel is designed with children in mind, and prides itself in providing a children’s splash park, tonnes of activities and a ‘Caribbean-esque swoop of sand right outside.’

The mother, known as @cecilielmikkelsen on the social app, divided fellow TikTok users with her video of her ‘nightmare’ holiday, which received over 1M views and 700 comments.

Captioned “Book a kids hotel they said, it will be fun they said,” Cecilie’s footage began with her partner and son boarding the plane, excited to take off for a fun-filled break on the Spanish island. 

Upon arriving at their resort, Cecilie – who travels ‘several times a year’ – admitted to being overwhelmed by the number of people playing in pools, hogging sun loungers and queueing for restaurant tables. 

Cecilie panned her camera to record rows of sun loungers taken up by people, towels and pool toys to vent her frustration at not being able to obtain one. 

The mother then turned her attention to the ‘overcrowded’ pool areas, which displayed dozens of children, teenagers and toddlers splashing around and swimming in the water. 

Meanwhile, adults were filmed relaxing and chatting by the bar area in a crowd next to the pool. 

Divided viewers rushed to the comments to share their thoughts on Cecilie’s hotel choice, with previous Alcudia Pins guests recounting similar experiences at the resort, while others criticise the mother’s lack of ‘common sense’ when booking. 

Baffled individuals slammed Cecilie’s lack of awareness prior to arriving at her destination, with one person writing: ‘If this area has a “kids hotel” then more than likely it’s gonna be a family destination aka loads of crazy kids running around.’

Another said: ‘I’m confused. What did you actually expect? Because the way my common sense is set up…’

A third quipped, ‘You know it was just going to be kids??? They have to get there somehow and with someone,’ while a fellow viewer wrote, ‘You mean to tell me a “kids hotel” has other people’s kids in it? How dare they not accommodate yours.’

But the mother insists that children are not the issue, and that lengthy queues and overcrowding were more of a problem at the resort, which she vowed ‘never’ to return to. 

Meanwhile, a number of former Alcudia Pins guests shared their own negative experiences while on holiday at the resort, with one person writing: ‘We went last year and thought exactly the same! Worst holiday ever.’

Another revealed: ‘I was literally here last week! Getting a sunbed after 9am was a nightmare.’

The mother responded to the discouraged guest, confirming: ‘Yes it’s a nightmare.’

In August, a furious mother vowed never to return to Ireland after she and her son were turned away from their hotel room in Dublin due to a ‘no kids policy.’

Hayley Smith, 27, and her eight-year-old son Cohen travelled for 10 hours by car and ferry from Derby to the ALTIDO hotel in Dublin on August 2 for a summer holiday.

But, on their arrival, the mother and son were refused access to their £365 hotel room, as the receptionist said children weren’t allowed inside for ‘insurance’ reasons.

Ms Smith claims she immediately showed the receptionist her four-night booking – detailing the room was for one adult and one child – but was still turned away.

The mother-of-one and Cohen were left with nowhere to stay, and Ms Smith was forced to pay another £420 for a hotel 20 minutes away.
