A middle schooler was taken into police custody after authorities traced a false-alarm 911 call back to her phone – but she claims a friend made the call without her knowing. 

Aaliyah Zarate, 11, was handcuffed outside Crosby Middle School in Texas and taken to a juvenile processing center by officers from the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office.

She was arrested for a false fire alarm call at the middle school after police officers traced the call back to Aaliyah’s cellphone, ABC13 reported.

The sixth-grader insists that she did not make the call and claims that another student took her phone and called 911 without her knowledge.

Despite claiming she’s innocent, officers followed protocol and put Aaliyah in the backseat of a deputy constable’s patrol vehicle to be transported the juvenile processing center.

‘It was a long drive there,’ sixth-grader Aaliyah Zarate said. ‘And it really freaked me out because my parents didn’t know where I was.’ 

She was held at the facility until law enforcement finished processing her with photographs and fingerprints.

Aaliyah was then released to her parents – who are appalled by the entire situation and want to know why their young daughter was treated so harshly.

‘She’s a child. She wasn’t a threat to anyone, to the police officers, to anyone at the school, to anyone,’ Aaliyah’s mother, Vanessa Zarate, said. ‘We’re hoping that we’re able to tell our story and this doesn’t happen to other children, young children.’ 

Aaliyah’s father believes the incident was not handled well. ‘To this day, we have no information from the school or from the Precinct 3, the Constable.’ 

‘No type of paperwork as to what she was charged with. It was handled so unprofessionally. Very, very unprofessionally,’ the angry father said.

The investigation is ongoing and, while no formal charges have been brought forward, police will look at surveillance from the middle school and ask other students what happened to determine how they proceed.

Because Aaliyah is over the age of 10 – the deputy followed policy by arresting and handcuffing her in the situation, according to Captain Kirk Bonsal.
