Heartbroken mum tells drink driver who killed her daughter, 10, 'you'll never know how many lives you destroyed' | The Sun

A MUM whose ten-year-old girl was killed walking to the chippy told the hit-and-run driver in court: "I'll never forgive you".

Lily Rose Morris was getting her tea with a friend when she was mown down by a Land Rover Discovery in Oldham just a week before Christmas in 2021.

Mark Fensome had been drinking vodka before he smashed into the two girls and sped away from the scene.

Yesterday he was jailed for nine years at Minshull Street Crown Court.

The court heard a harrowing victim impact statement from Lily’s mum Melanie Hudson, reports Manchester Evening News.

She told how their “lives changed forever” when she was told her daughter has died.

Melanie wrote: "She had only gone out to the chippy with her friend. How could this happen?

"The next day I remember waking up and hoping it was all a nightmare and Lily would walk back through the door.

"Part of me still expects to see her coming back through the door now."

Fensome had been drinking with colleagues before he mounted the pavement, hit the two girls and knocked down a lamppost.

He got out, had a look around, then drove away with the lamppost still under his car.

He was arrested at home soon after.

Addressing Fensome, Ms Hudson said: “I will never forgive you. Why did you decide to drive?

"Why didn't you walk? It's literally round the corner. You could have walked.

"You drove back past Lily, got out and looked and didn't stop. I will never understand why.

"My daughter was on the pavement where she should have been safe."

She added: "I can't put into words how I feel about you.

"We don't know you and yet you're always going to be a part of our story, part of our lives.

“You will never know how many lives you have destroyed."

Fensome's defence barrister, Ian Bridge, said he is “full of remorse”.
