North Korea scraps weapon pact, sends troops to border as World War 3 fears grow

North Korea's despotic leader Kim Jong-un has scrapped a military pact with his neighbours so that he can sends more troops to the tense border.

The inter-Korean military agreement was signed in 2018 in order to reduce tensions between North and South Korea. It saw the demilitarised zone between the two countries become disarmed, with military personnel withdrawn.

“We will withdraw the military steps, taken to prevent military tensions and possible clashes in all spheres including land, sea and air, and deploy more powerful armed forces and new types of military hardware to the regions close to the Military Demarcation Line. Because of the Republic of Korea’s provocative behaviour, the Sept. 19 military agreement had become virtually nullified a long time ago.

Cho Han-bum, a researcher at the Korea Institute for National Unification told Korea Times: “This would force our military to react, resulting in a greater risk of accidental clashes and escalations that could run out of control.”
