Matthew McConaughey’s wife says his laid-back Hollywood persona isn’t real
Camila Alves has described her husband Matthew McConaughey’s true personality in a new interview, admitting he is very similar to his 91-year-old mother, Kay McConaughey.
The actor is known for his laid-back Hollywood persona in films such as How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Wedding Planner, and Fool’s Gold.
However, the Brazilian model has revealed that her husband is actually quite the opposite.
She said on Southern Living’s Biscuit & Jams podcast: “When we first started dating, it was this image of Matthew of getting high, laid back, no shirt, whatever.
“Which I’m like, ‘The guy doesn’t even smoke. What is this vision coming from?’

“He’s actually the opposite, and he’s like his mom. She’s very organised, very minimalistic, very on time, very prepared, and he gets a lot of those traits from her.”
Camila also used the interview to discuss her troubled early relationship with her mother-in-law.
When Camila first started dating Matthew in 2006, she claimed Kay “tested” her, leaving the model to eventually “flip” at her.
Camila said the 91-year-old would call her by “Matthew’s ex-girlfriends’ names” and would speak in broken Spanish to her, and detailed a game-changing confrontation they had during a trip to Istanbul.

After this, the pair learned mutual respect, with Kay spending the Covid pandemic lockdowns with her son and his family.
Camila and Matthew share children Levi, 15, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10.
When they married in 2012, their children Levi and Vida participated in the ceremony as a ring bearer and flower girl.
Matthew has previously spoken out about the early days of the pair’s relationship, admitting he knew he found “the one” in Camilla after having doubts in previous relationships.
He told People in 2020: “That’s when she showed up, and she moved right to left in front of my eyes across that club. It was as if she was floating.
“And I did not say: ‘Who is that?’ I said: ‘What is that?’ And then introduced myself.
“Since that evening I have not wanted to spend time with any other woman, and definitely have not wanted to sleep with anyone else.
“I’ve not wanted to have children with anyone else other than her.”
For their eldest’s 15th birthday they allowed Levi to get an Instagram account, with Matthew admitting Camila was “nervous” about letting their son into the “social media universe”.
