Sussexes ‘treatment of Queen’ is reason people not fans, claims Kirstie Allsopp

Harry, Meghan, William and Kate thank the crowds in Windsor

TV host Kirstie Allsopp has claimed that one of the reasons why people may not be fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be down to their treatment of the late Queen.

She made the comments in tweets sent just days after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 when Prince Harry and Meghan joined the Prince and Princess of Wales in greeting mourners outside Windsor.

As mourners lined up to offer their condolences, some of the members of the crowd appeared to purposefully ignore Harry and Meghan.

This prompted Kirstie, 52, to tweet to her 434,000 followers: “When it’s tempting to send a spikey tweet to those being critical or mocking of our Queen, and our new King with, within days of her death, I just think ‘what would the Queen do?’ it’s been said again & again that she found positives in everyone, HM set an extraordinary example.”

In response to her tweet, she received a reply from a user named Dave who said: “I hope her influence will stop people being so hateful towards Meghan and Harry… but I won’t hold my breath.”

However, Kirstie was quick to respond with why she felt that people weren’t fans of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

She wrote: “I think M&H’s treatment of The Queen is one of the reasons people are not so enamoured of them.”

Receiving only a handful of replies, one user wrote: “Kirstie Totally agree ! Harry’s treatment of his Grandma, HM QEII, aka, Elizabeth The Great, was a F’n disgrace ! He should have known better !” (Sic).

Whilst another posted: “Utter Bull” before a final user offered her support, writing: “Well said, Kirstie.”

September 8 will mark one year since the Queen’s death.

Whilst the Royal family are still planning how they will mark the anniversary, a royal spokesperson has confirmed that there will be no official public event.

Instead, according to the BBC, King Charles is said to be spending the day “quietly and privately.”
