My family don’t buy anyone Christmas presents – people might call us tight and a ‘rich girl’ problem but I don’t care | The Sun

A WOMAN has told how her family don't buy each other presents – and haven't done for years.

Loren Rosko totally divided opinion online after explaining how she doesn't buy or like to receive gifts from loved ones at Christmas because she has enough "s**t" and buys anything that she needs herself.

In a clip posted to TikTok (@lorenrosko), she explains: "I don't do Christmas gifts – my husband, my family, we just don't do it.

"First reason being, we have enough s**t – I have enough s***, my husband has enough s***.

"And honestly, if I really wanted something, if I really needed something, I would have already bought it by now – same with him.

"If he wants something, he orders it."

She goes on to say that one time in passing she mentioned that she wanted an air fryer for her birthday, which was months away.

"Two days later, on my doorstep, an Amazon package with an air fryer," she recalls.

"My husband went ahead and ordered it for me, and he's like,
'why wait until your birthday when you can get your money's worth
and start cooking in it now?'"

Loren points out that the second reason is because the "spirit of
Christmas is about being together."

"I don't know about you but I have three nephews,
and when I ask them what they want for Christmas, they just want video game gift cards," she continues.

"And so we became the gifters of an experience, both to each other and to other people as well.

"Every year, we do a cookie decorating party for my nephews,
and we take them ice skating, and then they also get some sort of other experience of their choice."

Loren notes that last year her nephews wanted to cook lobster.

"I'm like, I've never cooked lobster, that actually sounds so fun – to do something that you've never done before.

"So we cooked lobster with them and it was so fun."

Loren adds how she "doesn't really care very much about gifts."

She continues: "The main reason we stopped giving gifts to the other adults in our family, to my sisters or to my mum…there's just so much stress and trying to figure out what you want to get someone for Christmas and you end up spending all this money.

"And, god bless my mum, I love her, but she'll get me a pair of pyjamas, a pair of socks…I don't want her to spend her money on me
for something that I don't actually genuinely need or want."

Loren adds that her mother-in-law started the tradition of taking her, her husband and his brother to Cirque Du Soleil for Christmas.

"And I love that," says Loren.

"It's just a fun experience but yeah, maybe try bringing that up to your family – be like, let's not do gifts this year, let's just do something fun!"

It wasn't long before the post went viral, racking up a whopping 651k views and several comments from social media users – with very mixed responses.

"Maybe it’s just us poor folks that have to wait for special occasions to get what we want/need," wrote one.

A second agreed: "Girl! I was scrolling to see if I was the only one! Talking about, yeah don’t buy gifts, instead we go on cruises, helicopter rides, out of the country, a show in Vegas for the whole family!

A third noted: "My sister and I exchange a movie, a book, and a homemade sweet."

Meanwhile, a fourth added: "This is my dream I just wish the rest of my family was on board."
