The exotic beach town crowned 'cheapest destination' for Brits – with £1.60 beers and white sands | The Sun

A BEACH town popular with British travellers has been named one of the cheapest long-haul destinations.

Not only does it have cheap booze, but it also has amazing beaches to visit.

Hoi An, in Vietnam, is a beach town half up the country.

The Post Office's Long Haul Holiday Report 2023 found that the Vietnamese beach town was the cheapest destination for Brits.

A drop in local prices and the falling value of its currency, the dong, have combined to bring costs down by 19.2 per cent since last autumn.

Looking at the cost of 10 common items and activities such as bottles of water, suncream and booze, Hoi An came out on top with an average of £52.66.

This also included some of the cheapest booze on the list, with a bottle of beer just £1.60.

Glasses of wine are £2.85 on average while a three-course meal for two, including a bottle of wine, was just £34.03.

It's not just affordable but is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being a preserved Southeast Asian trading port dating back to the 15th century.

Tourists can spot French architecture, with many influences and even French-speaking locals.

According to CNN, it is also the "banh mi" capital of the world which is a Vietnamese sandwich.

And many tourists visit the town which is known for its cheap tailoring, where you can buy affordable suits and dresses.

But you can also head straight to the beach, with beautiful white sand.

Cua Dai Beach is a popular seaside to visit, while An Bang Beach has restaurants and bars, but remains relatively unspoilt.

But if travelling with the kids, there is also the VinWonders waterpark which opened in 2020 with pools, slides and rides.

The best way to get to Hoi An is to fly from the UK to Da Nang, with Hoi An around an hour's drive.

Flights are around £600 return with stopovers in Singapore or Hanoi, and take around 16 hours.

But hotels are also cheap while out there with 5* hotels from £54 a night.

Temperatures remain above 30C all year round, with Vietnam seven hours ahead.
