How to clean mouldy washing machines – all you need is a first aid product that costs less than a fiver from the chemist | The Sun

A SAVVY woman has revealed a step-by-step guide on how to clean your washing machine.

Jessica Haizman loves all things to do with organisation and cleaning and often uses her social media to share her top tips and tricks.

In one such video, the mum explained that if you don’t clean your washing machine on a regular basis, you could grow mould.

Opening the door of her own one, she said: “Front loading washing machines are known for accumulating mould and this is because it never has the chance to air out.”

Over this, she wrote: “Allow the machine to AIR OUT (leave the door open),” followed by a winking face emoji.

She continued: “To avoid this, you’re going to want to make sure you really wipe under the flaps to get all of that moisture out and make sure that mould doesn’t have a place to grow.”

CLEAN QUEEN

As she spoke, TikTok user @jessicahaizman used a yellow microfiber cloth to clean out every compartment of the washing machine.

She added that you can also do a hot cycle with a first aid product that costs just £1 from the chemist to clean out the inside and make sure it’s that little bit fresher.

“You can also add hydrogen peroxide to your washing machine, where you normally add detergent, and run the hottest cycle possible, which will help clean the inside of the machine,” she said.

Over this, she added: “Always check your manual”.

People were quick to comment as one person wrote: “I just leave the door open after each use! No issues”.

Another said: “I wish I knew this before I bought it! Augh I hate it! It smells all the time. I throw cleaning tablets and wipe but still hard to keep up”.

A third posted: “I put vinegar in all my loads & leave the door & soap tray open when not in use. It works!”

“Need to try w/ peroxide. I’m in an apartment and can’t leave the machine and closet door open consistently because they block the walkway.” a fourth person shared.

While a fifth added: “Leave the door of the washing machine and the drawer for the washing powder open, then they will dry and you will get rid of mold and smell!”

According to Architectural Digest, the best way to clean a top-loading washing machine is to put it on the highest and hottest setting.

All you have to do is add in four cups of white vinegar and start the cycle.

“Once the washing machine is filled up and barely started, pause it and allow the water and white vinegar to soak the drum for an hour,” they continue.
